The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Sir Ben Ainslie and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are in talks to settle their legal dispute over the ownership of the current British America’s Cup boat.
Ainslie is reported to have been more conciliatory when discussing the present state of the legal dispute during last weekends America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta (PR2). And appeared confident that a way would be found to resolve the situation before it goes to court.
The AC75 hull, Britannia aka GB1, in question is presently being reworked to conform to the design rules for the next America’s Cup, AC38, due to open in May 2027 with the Louis Vuitton Cup Challenger Selection Series in Naples.
With time short to the first AC75 races, Ainslie needs to get the revamped AC75 out on the water and get the yacht and the crew up to speed.
Time on the water was something that was obviously lacking for the GB1 team at the PR2 event where they finished eighth out of nine America’s Cup teams sailing in the smaller one design AC40 boats.
GB1 is Britain’s America’s Cup Challenger and representative of the Challenger of Record, the Royal Yacht Squadron Ltd, for the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup.
