The programme for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games will be confirmed at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) 147th Session, which will be held in April next year in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The International Olympic Committee approved a revised timeline at a meeting in Dakar ahead of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
That decision will set the stage for the Brisbane 2032 Games as the first edition to implement the IOC’s new Fit for the Future reforms, sports programme methodology.
As an important step in the process, the IOC EB intends to confirm the following in December 2026:
- the incumbent disciplines to be automatically recommended to the IOC Session for inclusion in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic programme, which will be the majority of disciplines
- the incumbent and candidate disciplines to proceed to the combined comparison phase;
- and the candidate disciplines that will not proceed further in the process.
Working in close partnership with the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee, the IOC will apply the new methodology with flexibility, in the context of the Organising Committee’s existing and advanced operational and delivery planning and preparations.
