Junior 470 World Championships – Vucetti and Bonifacio Double Champions

Lisa Vucetti and Vittorio Bonifacio from Italy are the new Junior World Champions after an exciting Medal Series.

The Italian pair won two gold medals – the overall Junior World Championship title and the Under-21 title.

The silver medallists are Israel’s Roy Levy and Ariel Gral, while the bronze medals were won by France’s Lomane Valade and Julien Bunel.

After score adjustment, Valade and Bunel went into the medal series as leaders with 25 pts, the Italian and Israeli teams were tied on 28 pts, and Amelie Wehrle and Riccardo Honold of Germany fourth with 37 pts. The other six crews were on 46 pts.

Levy and Gral won the first race to lead with 29 pts from Vucetti and Bonifacio on 33 pts, Valade and Bunel dropping to third with 35 pts.

In the second (final) medal race, Vucetti and Bonifacio finished third to move into the lead with 36 pts, Levy and Gral dropped back to second also on 36 pts after a seventh place finish.

Valade and Bunel finished second behind race winners Julia Jacobsen and Victor Loof of Norway, but remained in third overall with 37 pts. While Jacobsen and Loof took fourth overall on 50 pts.

In the U21 category, second were Ukraine’s duo, Sviatoslav Madonich and Yelyzaveta Vasylenko, while third place went to Israel’s Tehila Sidis and Amitai Levkovitz.

Interestingly the two leading GBR crews were the only all male, a very rear combination in the 470 nowadays since the Olympic switch to mixed only crews.
