On the opening day in Enoshima, Japan, the rain arrived but the wind did not. The fleet will be hoping for a very different forecast tomorrow.
The first day of the 470 World Championships in Enoshima did not go quite as planned. After several days of fantastic sailing conditions before the first day of World Championships, the weather took a turn for the worse, bringing heavy rain and, unfortunately, very little wind.
The 74 entries spent around two hours waiting on the water for conditions to improve. With the breeze refusing to arrive, the Race Committee eventually decided to bring the sailors back ashore and wait for better conditions.
British Sailing Team entries are: Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris, and Hannah Bristow and James Taylor.
Britain’s Wrigley and Harris, have enjoyed an outstanding 2026 campaign. The British duo claimed the European Championship title in Vilamoura, won the World Cup events in Palma and Hyères, and most recently topped the podium at the Los Angeles pre-Olympic regatta in San Pedro against many of the world’s leading 470 teams.
