A northerly forecast holding for an entire day is a foreboding sight for Narragansett Bay sailors—and for the Race Committee tasked with getting more than 80 boats around Jamestown for the Annual Conanicut Yacht Club Around the Island Race.

The already fierce battle for the lead in The Ocean Race Atlantic has intensified over the past 24 hours as the leading pack compressed in lightening winds on the approach to a ridged high pressure system blocking the crews’ path to the finish line.

With light winds on Sunday at the Spain Sail Grand Prix in Valencia there were tricky decisions to be made by the SailGP teams, with strategy proving key and the choice of when to try and foil, and when to stick in lowriding mode proving critical.

Often in sailing it is said that the ‘rich get richer’ meaning that the leading boat keeps increasing its margin over its pursuers. This is not the case as day five of The Ocean Race Atlantic draws to a close.

What a finish. Going into the final day at Lake Garda, Konstantinos Trigonis and Konstantinos Kazantzis (GRE 11) were leading the championship with a 10-point lead.

Another fine day at Lincoln. Fourteen skippers in attendance, and at 0930 very little wind was on the cards. But while Darin was out in the dinghy, a little rustle here and a little rustle there, and by briefing time we had a steady breeze from the South.
