A perfect forecast of an 8 knot westerly, increasing to 12, allowing Island Barn to use its full east / width of 1 km, promised a good days racing. The class was probably a little tired from The National Champs a week earlier.

Christchurch Ledge Race (but not)
The forecast was not looking good to sail the Christchurch Ledge Race from some way out and so it proved. With about 3 knots and little prospect of an awful lot more, the Race Officer, Nick Hopwood, decided to delay for half an hour.
