Sunday 10th August saw the 2025 Merlin Rocket Aspire National Championships kick off at the beautiful Cornish resort of Looe. The 47 teams arrived the previous day to complete registration and scrutineering.

Leg One of The Ocean Race Europe launched in brilliant sunshine and a brisk westerly breeze in Kiel, Germany, creating fast, flat-water foiling conditions in a 15-19 knot breeze.

Sunday saw the first races of the 2025 Keyhaven Regatta at Keyhaven Yacht Club, a small club at the western end of the Solent in the UK. It also happens to be where I do my sailing from!

Sailing on Thursday was not possible due to a combination of sea state and fog, as a result three races were scheduled for Friday with the first sound signal at 11.00.

As has become tradition, the Scottish and Northern Skiffs migrated to Chanonry Sailing Club on the beautiful Black Isle in early August for their most northerly circuit event.

Showcasing one of the most diverse fleets in recent years, the roster includes 10 ORC, seven doublehanded, and 19 PHRF boats, with a strong showing from youth and collegiate sailors for respective challenge trophies in each division.

New venue announced for the 9th Sardinia Grand Slam, sailing event scheduled next September 28th to October 5th: the ninth edition will crown queens and kings of the foil that made its five-circle debut in Paris Games.

It’s Day 3 of Distillery ABRW & conditions almost mirrored those of yesterday, although there were patches of 30 plus knot winds as competitors knuckled down and got into the groove after two earlier days of fresh winds that took some masterful crew work.

The French IMOCA skipper Paul Meilhat wears his heart on his sleeve and he is making no secret of the fact that he loves The Ocean Race Europe format and would dearly love to win it.

Day 2 of the Comet Trio National Championships sponsored by Noble Marine at Brixham was a feisty affair with frequent gusts of around 20 knots.
