On the morning of Sunday 3rd August, the weather conditions were perfect with a South Westerly breeze to welcome our visitors to Medway Yacht Club’s 61st Medway Marathon. The day started early for those visitors, some of whom had travelled from afar.

A competitive fleet of 22 boats from around the country, 14 races over 4 days, 6 knot to 25 knot races, complex tides and only 2 discards made this a very challenging but enjoyable championship for the evergreen 707 class.

Only one race was scheduled for Wednesday in order to catch up with the overall race programme. It appeared that the committee boat end was favoured and several boats that started there tacked early onto port to take advantage of a left side lift.

After a season of adversity and determination, French sailor Achille Nebout has claimed the 2025 IRC Two-Handed European Championship, rounding off an extraordinary campaign racing with two teammates; Gildas Mahé and Tanguy Bouroullec.
