Before racing begins for the two medal races, qualification scores are compressed using two adjustments. First, no sailor may start more than nine points behind the competitor immediately ahead. Second, from third through tenth place, no sailor can begin more than 18 points behind the sailor in third overall.
Those adjusted scores are then carried into 2 final races, where standard low-point scoring – with no discard – will determine the final standings.
