The 2026 ILCA 7 Men’s World Championships is taking place in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland at the Royal St. George Yacht Club and National Yacht Club from 23 to 31 August.
There are 141 entries from 45 countries. The United States fields the championship’s largest national team with ten sailors, while Australia, Spain, Great Britain and Italy each have nine.
Willem Wiersema of the Netherlands is defending World Champion, with double Olympic champion Matt Wearn of Australia the front runner after his a perfect 2026 Grand Slam season.
Wearn won in Palma ahead of Britain’s Elliot Hanson and Michael Beckett, took Hyères from Beckett and Hanson, and completed the hat-trick at San Pedro ahead of Kontides and Beckett.
Beckett’s podium finish at all three events makes the British sailor one of the strongest challengers to Wearn, while Hanson already has winning form on the Dublin Bay championship waters.
Local interest is headed by Ireland’s 2021 World Championship silver medallist Finn Lynch. He will be joined in the Irish team by Ewan McMahon, Fiachra McDonnell, Tom Coulter, Bobby Driscoll and Roger Craig.
