British America’s Cup Challenger GB1, has sustained damage to its AC40 race boat and Dylan Fletcher sustained a minor facial injury following an incident with a Tudor Team Alinghi chase boat.
The incident occurred on the racecourse as GB1 was preparing for its first practice race start of the regatta alongside nine other AC40s on the Bay of Naples ahead of the second Preliminary Regatta of the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup.
GB1 starboard helm Dylan Fletcher sustained a minor facial injury. All sailors onboard GB1’s AC40 and personnel onboard the Tudor Team Alinghi chase boat were safe and accounted for following the incident.
GB1’s AC40 returned to shore following the incident, and the extent of the damage is currently being assessed by the team.
GB1 will return to the water Wednesday with a spare foil arm provided by Tudor Team Alinghi.
Repairs to GB1’s own foil arm remain ongoing as the team prepares for this weekend’s Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta in Naples.
The second Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta (PR2) is in Naples from 24 September 2026.
Race days are 25 and 26 September, with three races each afternoon. After eight scheduled fleet races, the top two contest the match-race final, winner takes all on Sunday 27 September.
The AC38 teams are racing in their AC40 yachts with both senior and youth and women teams . . . before they move into the full-on AC75 phase in May 2027.
